When Should I Treat My Leather?
Picture this, it's Sunday, November 7th, and you just woke up from your extra hour of sleep. You're getting ready to change your clocks and change the batteries in your smoke detectors. This would be a great time to treat your leather. Using daylight saving time as a guide, you will always ensure your leather is treated and protected. For most leather pieces, 2-3 times a year is recommended for treatment. It is essential to consider how much exposure to the elements your leather gets. Something with high exposure to elements like shoes or motorcycle leather may need to be done 3-4 times a year. Then there are pieces of leather that rarely see the light of day, and these pieces need less treatment, 1-2 times a year.
Treatment is not just wiping dirt or dust off. This means cleaning, conditioning, and moisturizing. Mad Cow has a line of products that are available to do this job. The products include leather cream, leather dressing, spot cleaners, and waterproofing sprays. These products are all nontoxic and all-natural, so application is easy and efficient. The spot cleaner is used to wipe away any dirt or any other contaminants. The leather dressing and the leather cream are similar; they offer protection and buff to a beautiful shine. The dressing is used for less exposed pieces of leather, while the cream is used for the more exposed leather pieces. Both the cream and dressing offer waterproofing agents too. The waterproofing spray can be used on just about anything.
Can Mad Cow Products reverse cracking in my leather?
It is important to note that Mad Cow's leather cream and dressing do not fix cracks/or cracking leather. Our leather products can prevent the cracking process by bringing moisture back into the leather. When the moisture is introduced, it will bring back the original color, and it will look like the leather is being slightly darkened. My recommendation would be to use the leather cream and dressing in inconspicuous areas so you will be able to see the color difference.
When Mad Cow leather dressing and cream are used, they help stop cracking before it happens. This is why we recommend treating it multiple times a year. Without treatment, your expensive leather can be reduced to garbage.
How do I go about protecting my leather?
We do have a blog about the process of cleaning your leather which you can read here: How To Use Leather Cleaning Products. A quick synopsis is to first clean any dirt or other containments off your leather. You can use a mild detergent (a few drops of dish soap and water). Use Mad Cow's spot cleaner next to make sure there isn't any dirt spots leftover. This is important because dirt can be absorbed into the leather, which will break fibers, assisting the cracking process. Then you can apply the cream or dressing depending on the leather item.
Mad Cow leather products should be used on your leather items to continue to prolong their life. Check our products out in our products store (LINK SOTRE) and start treating today. Unsure what to use? Look at our blog (LINK BLOG) or contact us at Help@trymadcow.com.
