Restoring Leather Car Seats
Today our products were tested by one of our wonderful customers, Zane. Zane used Mad Cows leather cream in his super cool 1973 Mercury Cougar with a white leather interior! We recommended the leather cream because car seats are not only exposed to the natural elements (UV light) wear with time and use. There had been some discoloring on the back seats, as shown in the picture below. We have another blog on when to use which leather cleaning product, which you can read here: When To Use Leather Cleaning Products. We recommended the leather cream because it penetrates the leather, remoisturizes it, and brings back the leather's original color. Using Mad Cow leather cream will prevent cracking and keep the leather looking great.
One of the best things about our leather cream is its made from all-natural ingredients such as beeswax, seed oils, and naturally occurring lipids. This means no harsh chemicals will contact you or your leather. The cream is even a good moisturizer for your hands!
Did you know? According to Hemmingβs find of the day, the 1973 Mercury Cougar used the same platform as the Ford Mustang. This model year was the last to share the same platform as the Ford Mustang!
What you need
To get this job done, you will only need a few items. First, you will want to make sure any dirt or other contaminants are removed from the leather. If this is not done, dirt will work its way into the leather fibers leading to cracking and damage. Using a mild detergent (water and a few drops of dish soap) or Mad Cow's spot cleaner will help do the initial cleaning. To apply the cream, you will use a lint-free cloth to work the cream into the leather to absorb it easier. For cleaning areas where there is stitching, use a soft-bristled toothbrush. This will help you get into the small hard to get areas. Mad Cow leather cream will leave the leather looking great, give an extra layer of protection, and never leave a sticky residue.
What If I Do Not Treat My Leather?
We want to express the importance of protecting and treating your leather regularly. Your leather's life span will decrease greatly without proper protection and treatment. Dirt, oils, and other contaminants will get into the fibers and break them down until it is not useable anymore. Once cracks form, you cannot fix them or reverse the damage. Regular cleaning and conditioning will extend the lifespan of your leather car interiors.
How Often Do I Have to Treat My Leather?
Ideally, we recommend moisturizing your car interior every three months. However, a good rule of thumb is to, at the minimum, treat your leather twice a year. A good marker for treatment could be daylight savings time. Adjust your clocks to the right time, and then treat your leather right! Taking the time to clean and condition your car's interior keeps it looking great for years to come. The proof is in Zane's before and after photos! His car looks terrific!
