What Is the Difference Between Leather Conditioners and Leather Polish?

Maintaining stylish leather shoes comes with a fair number of hardships. Leather shoes need cleaning, protection, and that little something extra to keep them looking luxurious all year round. Cleaning and treating your leather are imperative but knowing how to is crucial.

What does leather polish do?

Leather polish’s objective is leaving shoes looking shiny and new. According to wise-geek.com “Today, most polishes still contain wax, but also include various chemicals including turpentine, naptha, and dye, and natural substances such as lanolin and gum arabic.”. Polishes are used to bring back some shine, fill small scratches, and bring back some color.

How often should you actually polish your shoes? There are a few different schools of thought. Some people say you should polish 2-4 times a year max and others say once a month. What really matters is how much use the shoes are getting and the exposure to the elements. You will want to be careful not to “over care” for your shoes, as you don’t want to waste your leather care products. With a little patience and elbow grease you can put the shine back in your shoes (keep in mind that at least 6 layers of polish is recommended).

What does leather conditioner do?

Leather conditioners are designed to preserve and protect leather for years to come. There are built in cleaning agents that can help eliminate contaminants.  The best way to clean is to use a lint free cloth to massage the cream into the leather in a circular motion. We recommend allowing it to dry for one. Hour, and cure for 24 hours.

Mad Cow leather cream has a few different purposes. For example, it assists in preventing cracking by penetrating deep into the fibers and reintroducing moisture. This will help prevent the leather from drying out and cracking. Once the fibers are broken there is no way to fix this.

The protective agents will shield the leather such as beeswax and natural lipids. The waterproofing agent’s coats will also come in handy on rainy and snowy days. Waterproofing shoes is an absolute to keep them looking great and improving their life span.

Application

It is of utmost importance to condition your leather BEFORE you polish it. The conditioning will add the protection to the shoes and then the polish will give it the sleek shine. Remember to allow the conditioner to penetrate the leather and dry completely before applying the polish. Check out the Mad Cow Leather Cream here at our shop 👈🏼 click me!
